Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.

The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Recent Legal Issues

The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
