Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the early candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the club - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town manager - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club directors as they begin the search of hiring a new manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, although he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham United player is out of work which means the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
